At Bornholms Museum in Rønne, you can discover stories from Bornholm’s past – from ancient gold treasures and maritime history to the dramatic events of war and everyday island life through the centuries. As Bornholm’s cultural history museum, it offers fascinating exhibitions for both children and adults.
Among the highlights are Denmark’s largest collection of goldgubber, the famous Bornholm clocks, silver treasures, maritime exhibitions and the powerful exhibition “The Russians Are Coming!”, which tells the story of the bombing of Rønne and Nexø and the Soviet occupation of Bornholm after World War II.
Experiences for the whole family
On the museum’s upper floor, both children and adults can step back in time and experience “children’s Bornholm” from earlier days, complete with old classrooms, toys and stories from another era. Children can try writing on slate boards like in the old days, search for Krølle-Bølle and his family or even try being an archaeologist with a metal detector outdoors during the summer season.

Throughout the year, Bornholms Museum presents special exhibitions focusing on Bornholm’s history, archaeology and cultural heritage. Visitors can experience everything from ancient finds and local stories to exhibitions about wartime and Bornholm’s unique role throughout history.
The museum is more than 125 years old and is also part of Bornholms Museum’s four visitor sites together with Hjorths Fabrik, Erichsens Gård and Gaarden in Melsted. With a combined ticket, visitors can explore several sides of Bornholm’s history and culture during their holiday.
