Allinge Church

Allinge Church

Allinge Church is Bornholm's only yellow-limed church and was originally built as a chapel in 1569. The church was later expanded in 1892, and it appears today after a major restoration in 1992.

The church is centrally located in Allinge and has been closely linked to the town's development as a trading and maritime town over time. The simple exterior contrasts with the historical details inside, which testify to several periods in the church's life.

History of the church

The baptismal font is from 1890 and made of Moseløkke granite, while the floor around it was made of Hammershus granite in connection with the restoration in 1992. In the choir hangs a beautiful chandelier from around 1650, which according to tradition comes from Hammershus - a fine example of how Bornholm's history connects places together.

The church is today open to visitors when church services are not being held, and is an obvious stop on a trip through Allinge.
