Langelandsfortet – A Journey Back to the Cold War
In the middle of Langeland’s idyllic landscape, at the southernmost tip, lies Langelandsfortet. The fort was built in the 1950s and was equipped with four 150 mm cannons, anti-aircraft positions and 14 different underground bunkers. From here, the Danes monitored Warsaw Pact air and naval activity in the western part of the Baltic Sea. Until 1989, ready-to-fire cannons were hidden in underground positions, capable of reaching all the way to Lolland. Their task was to prevent enemy naval forces from entering the Great Belt and to protect minefields.
