A landmark in the heart of Aarhus
Aarhus Cathedral stands majestically on Store Torv in the centre of the city. The Gothic church building was consecrated in the early 14th century and is now Denmark's longest church – 93 metres from door to altar. With its tall tower and prominent location, the cathedral is an unmissable landmark that both locals and visitors make a point of visiting.
History, art and atmosphere
Step into the large church interior and feel the wings of history. Aarhus Cathedral is a treasure trove of experiences – from the well-preserved frescoes and the famous altarpiece by Bernt Notke to the impressive organ with over 6,000 pipes.
Although the church is several hundred years old, it is still a lively gathering place with church services, concerts and cultural events throughout the year.

Part of the city – all year round
The cathedral is located in the centre of Aarhus, close to Strøget, the Latin Quarter and Aarhus Å. This makes it an obvious part of a city walk or a quiet break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The church is open to visitors most of the day, and admission is free. If you want to climb the tower and enjoy the view of Aarhus, this is offered during selected periods, typically in the summer months.
